All Things Considered

by Fr. Dave Howell

THE FIRST WEEKEND in our new spiritual home will be an important event in our parish. Our Worship team would like every Liturgy of that weekend to be memorable. So each Liturgy will begin in the Gathering Space. When we enter the building, we ask that everyone (except the handicapped or those needing a little extra time) assemble in the Gathering Space so that we can enter together.

At the 4:30 Liturgy, we will place a time capsule beneath the dedication stone in the center of the Gathering Space. The limestone dedication stone is octagonal, a symbol of the eternal. It will be inscribed, "Witnessing to the Resurrection 1993". The Pastoral Council chose this inscription in honor of our patron, Mary Magdalen, the Apostle to the Apostles and first to tell the good news of the resurrection. The year commemorates the founding of the parish. Early next year, a statue of the Magdalen, carved to express this theme will stand behind the dedication stone.

At the 9 am Liturgy, after everyone is in place we will pause after the opening rites of the Liturgy are complete. Before we begin the Liturgy of the Word, we will bless the Ambo which is the altar of the Word of God. At the 11 am Liturgy, we will begin in the Gathering Space as at the first two. I will enter the Worship Area and bless the Baptismal Font. The rest of the assembly will follow, blessing themselves in the font as they enter. The following weekend, we will continue to bless other parts of our new worship area. At the 4:30 we will bless the new crucifix, at the 9 we will bless our Blessed Sacrament Chapel and at the 11 am Liturgy we will bless the Reconciliation Chapel. By the time Bishop Mengeling comes on June 28 for our dedication, we will have blessed the other significant parts, in preparation for the consecration of the altar and the building. THE BIG IF If the opening is delayed, all of our blessings will begin the weekend of June 13\14.

GETTING READY One of the things that will be very important, is that we prepare well to make the move. All of our Eucharistic Ministers and Hospitality folks will need to be re-trained. Two training sessions are planned in preparation for that first weekend. These will take place on Wednesday, June 3 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, June 6 at 10 am. Everything will have changed from what we are used to at Farms. So it is very important that all of our Eucharistic Ministers and Hospitality folks should plan on attending one of these two meetings. Thanks for your cooperation!!
