ALL THINGS CONSIDERED
ASCENSION SUNDAY:
This is the second year we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension on Sunday rather than Thursday. While this has been common in Canada and other countries for years, it is relatively new for us. The purpose of the change was to make it possible for more of us to celebrate the feast!CONGRATULATIONS!!
On behalf of all of us, I want to congratulate our seniors, who we honor this weekend at the 9 am Liturgy. We send you forth with our blessing, into what we trust will be, a promising future!
I would also like to congratulate the parents of these young men and women. Thank you for all your love and perseverance over these several years!
MANY GIFTS, THE SAME SPIRIT
Next weekend, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. At all of our Liturgies, we will invite everyone to choose a "flame" from the baskets held by our hospitality folks. Each flame names one of the nine fruits or results of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
At the 9 a.m. Liturgy, we select the newest members of our Pastoral Council. In the past, we have done it after the Liturgy. But it only takes a minute or two (a short verse from Acts, a moment of quiet prayer and then the drawing of the names), so I would ask you to join me in praying that the Holy Spirit will send us leadership to help guide our community.
At the 11 a.m. Liturgy, we will confirm a couple of adults who have been preparing for Confirmation during the Easter Season.
Lastly, after each Liturgy, you are invited to share your gifts and talents with the community by joining one of our several ministry teams. This will be the last week of our ministry fair and your last chance to make a one-year commitment to one of the planning groups responsible for making our vision a reality. So, if you would like to join the Community Life; Adult Formation; (Youth) Formation; Properties; Stewardship; Wellness or Worship Team next weekend will be your last opportunity to join!
Please consider sharing your gifts!!
Fr. Dave Howell
Please remember in your prayers Cindy Denhard and family in the death of Mary Gerber, Cindys mother, and Denise Putnam and family in the death of Mary Lenore Chisholm, Denises mother.

PENTECOST SUNDAY
Acts: 2: 1-11
Pentecost was a Jewish feast that celebrated the beginning of the harvest. It took place 50 days after the feast of Passover. Jewish pilgrims came to Jerusalem from all over the ancient world for the celebration. Today we hear how Pentecost became a Christian feast.
Galatians 5: 1-25
In concluding his letters, St. Paul always had a section instructing his converts about the correct way to live as Christians. Todays passage comes near the end of his letter to the Galatians. Paul offers a sharp contrast between life in the flesh (meaning: life prone to sin) and life in the Spirit.
John 15: 26-27; 16: 12-15
The Gospel text here is made up of two sections from Johns account. The first is about witness. We who receive the Holy Spirit witness by an ongoing personal, profound experience of Jesus, by heartfelt conviction, and expressing this conviction outwardly. The second part is about the importance of truth revealed by the Holy Spirit, is gradual, as we can hear it for our mission in life.
