ALL THINGS
CONSIDERED
PASTORAL
COUNCIL: Six new members were chosen to work with me in providing
vision and direction to our parish.
Chosen for a three-year term were: Joe Curcuru,
David Hornberger, Jim Panning and Larry LaTarte. Mike Polcyn was selected to complete the last two years of a
term; and Bob Stecewicz was selected to complete a
one-year term.
These six will be joining Katie Barazsu,
Kathy Heatley, Ann Kehn,
Marilyn Rhadigan, Nancy Rosso
and Al Rushak in making up our new Pastoral
Council. Teddy Eisenhut
will be our youth rep.
I would also like to thank Mary Stephens, Denise Putnam and
Erin Wolfe for their willingness to be nominated to serve on the council.
A
GENERAL ASSEMBLY – JUNE 18: Since
most of our parishioners organize their lives around the school calendar, so do
we. Over the last few years, we have had
a General Assembly of all of our Ministry Teams and Councils to end the year’s
activities.
The purpose of the assembly is three
fold. First, each group evaluates the
success of its activities and decides which will be continued, improved or
dropped. Secondly, it is an orientation
for new members of the teams, who can become familiar with the team’s work by
seeing all that they do. Thirdly, all the teams begin planning for the coming year.
This past year, all of our groups
have been working to create a three-year pastoral plan for our parish. The list of priorities from all the groups
will be presented at the general assembly for their thoughts and comments.
All
members of the Ministry Teams (those who have served last year and those who
signed up to this coming year) are asked to participate. It will begin with a Mass of Thanksgiving at
7 pm and then move into the hall for the rest of the program. The evening will end at 9:30 pm. with Night
Prayer.
ANOTHER EAGLE! We would like to congratulate another of our young parishioners: Dan Dorset. Dan was inducted into the rank of Eagle Scout last Saturday. Great work, Dan!

Today’s passage from the book of
Exodus describes the covenant between God and the Israelite people. A covenant is a solemn agreement made between
two parties and was usually sealed in blood.
In ancient times, blood was considered the source of life. To sprinkle two people with the same blood
bonded them as closely as if they were blood relatives.
On Yom Kippur, the high priest
sacrificed a goat on the altar in the temple.
Then he took some of the blood into the holiest place in the temple
sanctuary where only he was allowed to go.
There, he sprinkled that blood as a renewal of the covenant made at
Mount Sinai, and prayed that God would forgive the sins they had committed
during the previous year. This ritual is
the backdrop for today’s reading from the letter to the Hebrews.
Mark’s description of the course of
the meal provides us with a view of one of the earliest forms of the Eucharist
– as it was celebrated at the time Mark wrote his gospel. It is different from the description offered
by Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians, and by John in his gospel. But the essentials are the same;
the cup is the blood covenant of old, and in drinking the cup disciples
(through
all ages) share in the salvation history to the present.

fill those empty hours during your child’s class time? Catechists and aides are needed for our
classes! We train everyone, put two of
you in each class, give you the opportunity to share God’s Word, offer great
incentives during the year. We have
great camaraderie between all the catechists; we even offer grade level Lead

end of August! Come join our team and
share your faith with our youth! If you
are interested in helping in the fall program, call or stop by my office for
more information.

being held on Saturday, Sept. 27 for Souper Saturday!
During the month of July, I will be
on vacation until the 13th and many other days as well. I will also have earlier hours in the day to
accommodate my children being off school!
As always, I will check my voicemail (#15) and will get back to you!
I would like to wish all of our
wonderful Fathers a happy day today!
Working with all the families has given me the opportunity to witness
your love in action! It is a proven fact
that Fathers have a profound influence on the family and I see how involved all
of you are! Happy Father’s Day!

While driving around Livingston County among so many new
stores, houses, condos, and apartments, have you also noticed all the new
churches being built, added to, or renovated? When those who believe in God as
our Creator undertake these kinds of construction projects, do we have any
different considerations than anyone else?
When faced with their need to transform their Motherhouse to respond to the aging and health care needs of their members, the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) were sure that they DID have many extra considerations. After several years of research, discernment, and prayer, the Sisters were inspired to renovate their home and renew their campus in ways that would express their commitment to sustainable living. A sustainable way of life means that the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The Sisters took this as a moral mandate.
On Sunday, June 29, the Charity and Justice Team of Saint Mary Magdalen will feature Danielle Conroyd, the IHM Sisters project manager and Lynn Rogien, the project manager from the Christman Company as speakers. They will describe this transforming project as the sixth and final workshop in this series on environmental subjects. The workshop will be presented at St. Mary Magdalen Church on Old Us 23 in Brighton at 6PM. For further information or questions call 517 546-7053
