A NEW PHASE This weekend begins a new era to the brief history of this parish, as we begin using our own building. Already several groups have been scheduling the use of different rooms and more will come. Our parish activities will expand and soon "all this space" will soon become "there's no room". There will be more weddings, funerals and Baptisms. The numbers of children and adults in religious formation will grow.
It won't be long before the newness wears off. Our 54 months at Farms and all the work that went with planning and construction will become only a memory. New people will come who have had none of our pioneer experience. In the process of this transition something wonderful will also happen. Our new building will become our Parish Center. It will seem like we have always been here. When this happens, this new facility will become all that it was intended to be: Our Spiritual Home. THE DEDICATION of our new worship area will begin this process next weekend. The celebration of this very special Liturgy, officially consecrates this space to worship of God.
Coming on the eve of the fifth anniversary of our creation, June 28 becomes a special day on our parish calendar. Each year, the anniversary of the feast of our Dedication becomes a holy day for this parish. It becomes the annual reminder of the importance of what will happen next Sunday at 4 pm.
As the ritual clearly indicates, it is not just the building that is dedicated, but most of all those who use the facility also dedicate themselves to the worship of God. So this special holyday becomes an encouragement to us to re-dedicate ourselves to worship of God and the mission of Christ.
MANY THANKS Those who are most deserving of our thanks are the members of Our Construction Task Group. These 35 people have given many, many hours to planning for and overseeing the construction of this new building. Over the last three years of work, they have learned a great deal about the projected growth of our area and about the many different elements that make up a worship space. They concerned themselves with budgets and construction. They have dealt successfully with several complications and difficulties. They have frequently compromised on choices of color, furnishings and finishes. Yet their willingness to work together for the good of us all, has truly created a well designed, harmonious, impressive, elegant and yet economical building. This facility stands as a genuine tribute to "the spirit of this parish".
As this building begins to age and become the true spiritual center of this parish, may this spirit grow in this community as well. Fr. Dave Howell
