All Things Considered

by Fr. Dave Howell

THE MEMORABLE DAY Last Sunday our parish celebrated the most important event that will ever happen in our community, dedication of our spiritual home. It truly was a very memorable and moving occasion, I want to especially thank everyone who was involved in the many different aspects of the day.

Many thanks to Steve Schulte and our Liturgical singers and musicians for all their many hours of rehearsals. Their song/prayer added so much to the celebration. (Bishop Mengeling asked me twice during the Liturgy if these were all from our parish!) We are also deeply indebted to all those who had roles in the Liturgy and to those who set up for this event. Many thanks to those who prepared food and hosted the reception afterward. Every contribution to this day made it a very special event for us all.

BISHOP POVISH, now retired, established our parish in 1993. Since he was unable to join us last weekend for the dedication, I have asked him to come on Sunday, July 19 for Liturgy. He will also bless the dedication stone, which will be placed in the center of our Gathering Space.

COFFEE & DONUTS Katie Barazsu has chaired this group for the last three years. But she would like to "retire" from this responsibility now. So I am in need of one or two people who would be willing to coordinate this activity for the community. If you are willing, please contact me.

THE FENCE Moving to a more mundane subject, you may have noticed the new fence around our section of the pond. While we have tried to make it blend in as much as possible, it was installed for a very practical reason. To protect little ones who may slip away from their parents and head to the pond. It also surrounds the two drainage areas to protect every one from being hurt.

SOME VACATION Lastly, I will be leaving on vacation for ten days or so. Fr. George Michalek and I are going to Quebec Province to celebrate our twentieth anniversary. I was ordained in January and his ordination was in October. So I will be out of the office until July 16. Fr. Dave Howell

This Past Weekend

This past weekend, we celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism with Lauren Claire Massey, daughter of Brian and Marie Massey; Paul Vincent Grisdela, Jr., son of Paul and Kathleen Grisdela; Nina Susanne Howard, daughter of Travis and Tracey Howard; Christopher Allen Keeling, son of Allen and Laurie Keeling; and Jacob Thomas Warren, son of Alan and Michelle Warren. We congratulate their parents and godparents and offer them our prayers and support, as they accompany them on their journeys of faith.

ON THE JOURNEY

Last Sunday night I was blessed. I was the last one out of the building after our dedication and as I made the rounds checking the doors, I paused in the worship area. In the still and quiet, a haze still lingered near the ceiling from the incense and you could faintly smell the aroma from the Oil of Chrism on the dedication stones and the altar.

As I sat in the quiet, the room felt filled with the presence of everyone who had been there earlier and as the last rays of sun came through the skylight, I said a prayer of thanksgiving for the beautiful day, the beautiful building and the special people that make up Mary Magdalen. It had truly been a day of grace. Yours on the journey, Marilyn
