ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

SUMMER TIME The wonderful thing about summer is that temperatures rise and activities slow down. It gives us the opportunity to enjoy the wonders of nature, family and friends.

As you may have noticed, I am not present this weekend and a priest from Cross International has presided over the weekend’s Liturgies.

My sister, niece and I are out at my cottage enjoying a few days of “togetherness” and nature.

I’ll see you next weekend!

Fr. Dave Howell

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Amos 7:12-15

Amos preached about 750 years before Christ and was the first prophet whose words were put into writing. At the time, the Jewish people were split into two kingdoms: Israel in the north and Judah in the south. Amos was not a prophet by occupation, but was sent by God to preach in the northern kingdom at the shrine of Bethel. Our reading begins at that point.

Ephesians 1: 3-14

Today and the next few weeks, we will be reading consecutively from the letter to the Ephesians. Ephesus, a major seaport on the western coast of what is today Turkey, was a center for early Christians. Today’s passage is the beginning of the letter and is a prayer praising God for the good things God has done for us.

Mark 6: 7-13

In this brief reading we hear the great commission that should guide any and all of us. It is simple yet specific. The Lord chooses us to proclaim His kingdom. We have been given such lavish blessings from God in Jesus Christ. We are to share what has been given to us.

Last weekend we had our National Relief Network car wash. We raised $350! Thank you so much for being so generous. Thank you too to Ed Govan, the manager at Walters Home Appliance, who so generously let us use the water and space for the car wash. Thank you!.

Schedules are more relaxed in the summer. No school, sports or football games. Picnics, family gatherings and vacations take precedence that is true, but let’s not let our prayer life or attendance at church become lax either. During the days of summer it is easier to put God on hold for a while, because we are enjoying ourselves. I want to remind you that God enjoys the good times just like we do. Include him by praying before you travel, before you eat, and just because! Thank him for your family, food and friends. It’s nice to be acknowledged for the good things you do; God appreciates it to.

M.U.D (6, 7 and 8 graders)

Many of you eighth graders are wondering when you can move up and join the high school youth group. While I am thrilled you want to be involved, the regular meetings do not begin until September. I am looking forward to meeting new people and seeing you who have been involved with the MUD activities. Have a great summer!
