All Things Considered

by Fr. Dave Howell

BISHOP POVISH, now retired, is the one who established this parish on June 29, 1993. Since he was unable to join us for the dedication, he agreed to come celebrate Liturgy with us next Sunday.

After the 9 am Liturgy, Bishop Povish will bless the dedication stone which will be placed in the center of the Gathering Space. Beneath the stone, we will place the "time capsule". This capsule contains many different items: a binder with a time-line of parish history, Our Vision Statement, the teen's vision, the religious ed covenant, a catechumen's cross and other items from parish groups. It also has a mug given to those who receive the Pastoral Council commendation and a T-shirt from our picnic.

I added three other items: a relic of St. Pius X - the patron saint of religious educators. Since relics are no longer placed in the altar, it seemed appropriate to add the relic. For this building is truly dedicated to the religious formation of all - young and old. The other two items which I added to the time capsule are two rocks. One is from the floor of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, the other is from St. Peter's in Rome.

I brought back both from the pilgrimage last fall. The Holy Sepulcher is built over the place venerated as the site of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. St. Peter's is built over the tomb of Peter and serves as the primary church of the pope as head of the Catholic Church. It seemed appropriate to add these stones from the holiest churches in Christendom.

ON VACATION For those of you who missed me this weekend, I am in Quebec City with a school mate, Fr. George Michalek. I'll be back in the office Thursday. Fr. Dave Howell
