ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE Another name for this might be how I spent my summer vacation.

Many of you know that I bought a cottage a little over three years ago - about two months before my sister decided to come to live with me. Fortunately, it’s only 90 miles west, far enough to be away, close enough to easily get there and back in a day.

Ever since I bought it I have been slowly working on it, the usual clean up, paint up, fix up. Gradually, I’ve whittled down the list, hiring out a couple of major projects and doing most of the small ones myself. By the end of the summer I should have them all done, or at least, on the way to completion.

The other project is to read. Besides picking up The Order of the Phoenix, I also took along a few other books. All of these were purchased with a few gift cards left over from Christmas.

So, the simple answer to how I spent my summer vacation is to sum it up with two words: working & reading. Not a bad formula for a vacation…

Fr. Dave Howell

Please remember in your prayers Karen Alfanos and family in the death of Ginther Blankenburg, Karen’s father; also pray for Stephanie St. Clair and family in the death of Russell Helmer, Stephanie’s step-father.

Feast of St. Mary Magdalen

Song of Songs 3: 1-4

This passage is where a lover seeks the beloved, as on the day of resurrection.

Mary Magdalen went in search of her beloved Jesus when he was not in the tomb.

Psalm 63: 2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9

This psalm foreshadows Mary’s loving search for the body of Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5: 14-17

Paul tells us that the old things have passed away; and new things have come. This is in regard to Christ’s resurrection. Whoever is in Christ is a new creation.

John 20:1-2, 11-18

The gospel is proper for today, because Mary Magdalen is a biblical figure. Having encountered the risen Lord, Mary of Magdala announces His resurrection to the disciples. She is the first to witness to the risen Lord. She is “the apostle to the apostle” and patroness of preachers.

STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK

Today’s readings are about being chosen and sent. The prophet Amos was chosen by the Lord and sent to use his talents for the People of God. The Gospel recounts the story of the sending of the twelve disciples; and in the second reading, St. Paul reminds us that we, too, are chosen. For what have I been chosen? To whom have I been sent?

This past week, my family and I have been on vacation. We traveled to North Carolina to camp with my parents and family. It was nice to be away from the everyday things and to relax and enjoy my family. I hope your vacation is spent with leisure time and enjoyment!

Next weekend I will be with the youth traveling to Jackson TN with the National Relief Network. We will be attending the 4:30 liturgy on July 19. If you would like to see us off, we will be leaving from the church parking lot on July 20 at 8:30am.

If you look in the youth room, you will see handprints on the wall. They are our mark on the room to let all those who enter know that we have been touched. We gather once a week from August to July, but our relationships and love extend far beyond the room. We have been touched by God’s love and each time we gather, we see the face of acceptance, friendship, and love. I am proud of the teens, who are not afraid to live their life in faith outside this place of worship.

M.U.D (6, 7 and 8 graders)

In years to come, the MUD students will be able to add their handprints as they grow in faith and love. Becoming a part of the youth group and being involved is much more than you can imagine.
