ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

PLANNING for the FUTURE Over the last six months our Pastoral Council has led our various Ministry Teams through an evaluation process.  We used the Parish Assessment Tool prepared by the diocesan Planning Commission.

Using the PAT, we evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the parish to create a series of 19 goals that will direct our parish activity over the next 3-5 years. Six of these were combined to become the four priorities that will govern the activities of our Pastoral Council over the next 3-5 years. The four priorities are:

One: To make sure that the pastoral needs of our people are being met by our community.

Two: To enable our people to recognize and further develop their personal and spiritual gifts; inviting them to use these gifts in ministry and leadership.

Three: To improve communication with our parishioners, our neighboring parishes and the larger community.

Four: To plan for the future expansion of our parish facilities.

These priorities, along with those from the Ministry Teams, will form a Pastoral Plan that will help us move much closer to our vision over the next 3-5 years.

JOURNEY WITH JESUS This week, our parish is offering its vacation Bible school. The planning has been going on for months and now almost 100 adults and teens are poised for the start of JWJ on Monday.

It really is a wonder to watch all the joy and enthusiasm that mark the week. We are all grateful for the efforts of so many!

In many ways, JWJ also marks “the end of summer”. During July, there are no meetings and most activities go on hold for the summer. But August marks the start up of parish activities.

Religious Ed recruits the last of its catechists & aides, class lists are prepared and training begins. The ministry teams begin meeting again to plan for the fall and the pace of life begins to pick up for those in parish leadership… It was a great summer…

Please remember in your prayers Pat Christie and family in the death of Sally Myers, Pat’s mother.

Please remember Anna DeMonaco and family in the death of Albert DeMonaco, Anna’s father.

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Exodus 16: 2-4, 12-15

The book of Exodus tells of the Israelite’s escape from Egypt and their journey to Mount Sinai some 1,200 years before Christ. The bread described in today’s reading is called manna, a word derived from the ancient Hebrew word for “what is this”?

Ephesians 4: 17, 20-24

In our consecutive readings from the letter to the Ephesians, we have come to a part of the letter which gives practical advice for daily living. Today’s reading describes the practical effects of Baptism. In the waters of Baptism, we symbolically die to one way of living and rise to a new way of life.

John 6: 24-35

In this reading we see the beginning of Jesus’ long discourse on the bread of life. It is a classic instruction, touching on many ways in which God reveals the divine will and plan for salvation. Notice the structure that Jesus uses.
