09-03-00 ALL THINGS CONSIDERED VOICES PROJECT - DIRECTIONS 2OO1 At our meeting on Thursday with the Diocesan Strategic Planning Commission, many issues, opportunities and challenges were mentioned. By the end of the evening we identified five priorities. This Thursday, Sept 7, all the members of our Councils and our Ministry Teams will meet again from 7:30 until 9:30 pm. Using the priorities determined last week, we will set the direction for our parish's activities and efforts for the coming year. First, we will pray; then we will hear brief reports from all these groups regarding their efforts to help our parish move closer to its Vision. The committee from the Pastoral Council will present a report on the VOICES Session and list the top three priorities that came out of our meeting on August 31. The rest of the evening will be devoted to planning for the coming year. Each of the Ministry Teams and the Finance Council will spend time creating a set of goals for itself based on the priorities we established the week before. Every member of our Ministry Teams and Councils should plan on participating on September 7. (Anyone who would like to join them is welcome, as well.) Again, we have hospitality beforehand and then start at 7:30 pm. THE PICNIC When we first started seven years ago, it was a wonderful adventure. For most, it was the first time they had visited our property. We blocked off an area where we thought the future church would be built and celebrated Liturgy there and then had our first "Picnic & Ice Cream Social". Seven years later, it is still the event of the year. It is the time that brings most of us together for a single event. It also serves as our reunion after summer vacations. I hope you will make it. The Liturgy will be outside at 11 am followed by the picnic, fun and games. (As usual, if the weather does not cooperate, all of it will be rescheduled for the following Sunday.) THE KNIGHT'S PAVILION Last September our Knights of Columbus had installed a concrete pad back behind what had once been a stable. Now thanks to their fund raising, hard work and a loan from the parish, they have started on the pavilion that will become a part of the parish facilities. This article was written earlier in the week, so I do not know how much they have completed, but their hope is that they will be able to at least be able to erect the trusses and roof to provide some extra shade for the picnic. Many thanks to all who been working on this project. Planning started almost with the beginning of our K of C Council and fund raising soon afterward. It will be a welcome addition to our facilities when we complete the roof raising! Fr. HELP WANTED! Drivers needed for food distribution. Contact Barb Toth, 810-225-0807. Religious Education Do I have what it takes? You may be wondering: Can I be a catechist? There are many qualities necessary for the task of catechesis. Loving God, being at ease with children, and being sensitive to their needs are a few! It is also important that you be aware of the difference between faith and theology. Your role is not to convince the children that there is a God, rather, it is to share with them how God is revealed to us through Scripture, tradition and their own life experiences. Take advantage of catechist formation classes and meetings for free training! As you catechize one particular group of children, keep in mind that you are really part of a whole community of catechizers - you are not alone!! Catechists and aides are badly needed for some of our weekly and Family
classes. Please consider helping out, even if you have never done so before!
Formation classes are offered to help you if you are interested in being
a catechist or aide. Please call today for more information. PRE-SCHOOL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! Share your hugs with pre-school children. Two times a month during our Family Program, we need someone to oversee our pre-kindergarten children. Call Mary, 229-8624, for more details! WE NEED YOU! Yes you! We need you to be a 7, 8, or 9th grade catechist who will share your faith, promote a sense of community, and develop Christianity to its fullest while growing with our youth as they continue on their faith journey. Catechists are badly needed in this area. Guidance is provided to train you in this ministry! Call Sr. Maryetta for more details. ON THE JOURNEY Next Sunday, September 10, at 11:00 a.m.,is our seventh annual Parish Picnic and Ice Cream Social. It is the biggest social event here at St. Mary Magdalen and one of the best opportunities to see the rest of the parish, the people who go to the other two Masses each weekend! Bring your lawn chair and a dish to pass - everything else will be taken care of. September 5 is our next Evening of Awareness, the first of our two-part Baptismal Prep Program. If you are expecting or have a child in need of Baptism, please call me at 229-8624 and register as soon as possible for this workshop. Infant Baptism normally requires a two or three month planning period. Yours on the journey, Baptism During the month of August we celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism with

Bell, daughter of Robert and Gail Bell; Kara Ann Muszynski, daughter of
James and Kimberly Muszynski; Dylan James Bilicki, son of Dwayne and Rayma

Please stop in the youth room and take a look at the painting that is now finished. It looks awesome! Matt Magon drew it up and with the help of his mother and sister; it has become a great gift for us all to see. So pop in and take a look. Our halloween haunted house and party plans are well under way but don't let that stop you from coming to our meetings. We are still in need of people to help in many areas. September 13 some of us will be traveling to St. Mary's in Chelsea to attend a healing Mass for the teens in today's society. Fr. Joe Krupp will be the presider, and also present at the Mass will be a man by the name of Irving Houle. He has been graced with the gift of Stigmata. There is more information on the bulletin board near the office. I encourage you to read it. You can also contact me at the office for more information. M.U.D. Our family pool party and potluck dinner last Friday was fun. The weather was perfect for swimming. Thank you to Liggie Perkins and her family for opening their home to us. It was nice to meet so many new people. Wednesday, September 27, we are scheduled to volunteer our time at the Livingston Community Food Bank. Our time slot is from 4-6pm. Be sure to mark your calendar now. Next weekend there will be a sign up sheet. What would a M.U.D event be without one.
