All Things Considered

by Fr. Dave Howell

ACOUSTICS Perhaps one of the most consistent negative comments about our new worship space is the difficulty some have in hearing the spoken word. All I can tell you is that the folks who were charged with selecting the sound system are aware of the problem. They are working on solutions that will improve the acoustics in the near future.

A QUIET PLACE TO PRAY One of the reasons for the Blessed Sacrament Chapel is to provide people with a quiet place for prayer. While it is set off by itself, the tabernacle is still visible to all who enter. But most of all, the chapel has its own entrance at the back of the building. Once the tabernacle base is refinished to match the rest of the woodwork, the base will be securely fastened to the floor and the tabernacle will be bolted to the base. When this work is completed, the back entrance to the chapel will be left unlocked. The doors leading to the sacristy and the rest of the building will be locked and an alarm system will provide security. The parking lot and entrance to the chapel are well lit from dusk until 11 pm. This will allow for people to find a quiet place for prayer whenever they are in need of it.

PARKING Just a reminder, please park in designated parking spaces ONLY. There is more than enough space in the lot, so there is no excuse for anyone to park in the fire or traffic lanes. One of the tasks given to our architects by both the Construction Task Group and the Advisor Group, was to design a "Christian" parking lot. The idea was that there would be adequate space and a logical traffic flow that will enable people to be considerate of each other. That task was basically accomplished. Now we rely on everyone who uses it to be considerate. Thanks for your cooperation! Fr. Dave Howell

ATTENTION YOUTH

Summer is over and Labor Day Weekend is here. There's a meeting tonight from 7-9:00pm just to spend some time together. This is an opportunity to get together and enjoy each other's company. I will supply chips and bring the games (Taboo, Cards, Pit....). Hope to see you there!

PICNIC

St. Mary Magdalen Fifth Annual Parish Picnic/Ice Cream Social, next Sunday, Sept. 13 (rain date-Sept. 20), beginning with the 11:00 a.m. liturgy. If you are planning on attending please fill out invitation form in the gathering area. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and a dish to pass for 8-10 people (ice cream will be provided). Bring your favorite beverages (no glass) and frisbees, baseball mitts, etc.

ON THE JOURNEY

Next Sunday, September 13 is our Fifth Parish Picnic & Ice Cream Social. It's hard to believe that five years have passed! The first one grew from a need to come together at one time and worship in a place that would someday be called home. Now, our parish picnic has become more like a family reunion. It provides an opportunity to see all the cousins who attend Mass at a different time and meet all the new additions to the family. It is a relaxed, informal afternoon that calls us together in Eucharist, friendship and fun. Yours on the journey, Marilyn

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Registration for religious education is still taking place. As of today we have 507 children registered and there are still many children who need to register. The program begins the week of September 20, and there is still a need for catechists on Sunday morning-Grade 5, Sunday evening-Grade 9 and Aides in many of the classrooms. CONFIRMATION RETREAT is September 26 at the Emrich Center. We still need chaperons, aides and people to share their faith story. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. Sister Maryetta

BAPTISM

Last Sunday we celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism with Sarah Ann Mercieca, daughter of Loraine & Robert Mercieca. We congratulate her parents and godparents, offering them our prayers, as they accompany her on her journey of faith.
