09-17-00 ALL THINGS CONSIDERED MANY THANKS to those who were a part of our voices project, especially Barb Lanigan (the chair) and the rest of our Pastoral Council folks who provided leadership for the VOICES Session and the Planning evening. I also want to thank all those who were a part of this effort. Four goals will direct the efforts of our councils and ministry teams over the next year. They are: 1. To provide guidance and formation that will encourage our people (youth and adults) to respond to God's call to ministry and service. 2. To continue the development of a caring and accepting community that nurtures the faith of our younger people, enabling them to become full members of the Church. 3. To increase our emotional and physical support of those in need, especially the poor, the sick, seniors and individuals and families who are struggling. 4. To encourage and increase in our people's generous commitment of time, talent and finances; and become better stewards of all that has been entrusted to us. These goals are a combination of what was said in the VOICES Session and what the members of Pastoral Council heard last spring when we had 10 listening sessions with our parishioners. From these goals, members of the different ministry teams developed specific tasks for themselves to help us achieve these goals. Some of these tasks involved new projects, others will seek ways to improve what we are presently doing. Again, many thanks to all who were involved! A SPECIAL BLESSING - POSTPONED Because of the rain delay of our picnic, the Blessing of our Catechists will take place next week at the Sunday Liturgies. I would ask you to remember in your prayer, the men and women who have offered to serve as Catechists. It is a ministry that is much more than just teaching religion, it is sharing the gift of faith with our younger sisters and brothers. I hope you will join me in blessing their ministry and in praying for the success of their ministry in the months ahead. A FIRST STEP Last weekend, Jim Chevalier was admitted as a candidate for the diaconate (deacon) at St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing. The ceremony marked a half way point for Jim, who has been going through a process of education and discernment over the last three years. Now he enters into a process that will include education, formation, reflection and spiritual direction. It will culminate with ordination in approximately 2 to 3 years. On behalf of us all, I want to offer Jim and Linda our heartfelt congratulations and the promise of prayer as they continue on their journey. WITH YOUR PERMISSION... During the VOICES Session both Tom Zuyus and Anne Williams took pictures which may be reprinted in some of the publicity for the VOICES Project. The diocesan Office of Pastoral Planning has asked for reprint permission from all those who participated in the Session. Unless you tell me differently, we will presume your permission. Thanks!
