MANY THANKS to all those who were a part of the planning, set up and activities of the Picnic. Your efforts made a beautiful day a wonderful, fun event. Thanks to Steve & Pat Hancock for all their hard work to coordinate the event!
MILESTONES ON THE JOURNEY This weekend we celebrated the Rite of Acceptance at the 4:30 Liturgy. This marks the first milestone for those who have been a part of our Inquiry group for the last few months. The rite receives or accepts these folks into the Order of Catechumen. It celebrates their desire to identify themselves with the Church. It also celebrates the embrace of the Church who welcomes them to continue their journey of faith with us. Perhaps the most striking part of the rite is the signing with the cross. The head, eyes, ears, heart, hands, shoulders and feet are signed with the cross. It is the visible and graphic reminder that the disciples of Christ Jesus are each to take up their cross and follow in His steps.
Next weekend 30 young men and women will go on retreat with Sr. Maryetta. Together they will reflect and pray, seeking to understand the meaning and importance of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Soon after the retreat, the participants will write to me, formally asking to be Confirmed. I will meet with each of them individually to discuss their request with them. When this process is complete, we celebrate the Rite of Enrollment with them, officially welcoming them as candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep all these folks in your prayers.
THE FLYING NUN The picnic ended around 3:30 pm last Sunday, but several stayed around after all the clean up was complete. Still others returned around 5 pm for the "big finish!" At 5:30, a hot air balloon-The Jedami- was brought by its owners & crew to take Sr. Maryetta for a little ride. She could not have been more excited when the folks told her it was for her! Holding her sign, "Kansas or bust", she took off around 6:15. She headed east over the GM Proving Grounds and beyond. She came back to earth just east of Milford. (Perhaps it would have been better to say that she landed, because I don't think she has come down to earth yet! Fr. Dave Howell

For the fifth year in a row we were blessed with a beautiful day for our
parish picnic. Each one has been filled with friendship, fun and wonderful
food. Thank you everyone, it is the enthusiasm of the community that
makes this one of the highlights of Mary Magdalen's social calendar. Our
next purely fun event is the annual barn dance, watch for more information
in the bulletin. It will be the first weekend in November.
Yours on the journey, Marilyn
The religious education program at St. Mary Magdalen begins this week. What excitement! The catechists have been preparing and the children are eager to study and learn new things. It should be a year of greatness. In all of my excitment and thinking everything was in place, I find that I am still a few people short. There is a need for a catechist on Sunday morning for the 5th grade and also an aide for Sunday morning in the 1st grade. If you could assist in those ministries, please call me.
At this time of year, there is always stress to make sure that everything is taken care of and all has been done to make the program meaningful. My stress was released and the excitement caught me in the moment as the hot air balloon came to pick me up. It was just a great and wonderful feeling. I was like a little child on Christmas morning. Thanks for making it such a memorable day!! Sister Maryetta
