ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

THE CATHOLIC CATECHUMENATE Last weekend, Ed Prise (Grandpa Ed) spoke about his experience last year and invited you to join The CATHOLIC CATECHUMENATE this year.

We began the process last year for a couple reasons. First, we found that several Catholics expressed the wish that they could have the same experience as our Catechumen, the people who become Catholic at Easter. We also found that many of those who were raised Catholic frequently struggle to be able to explain the what and why of our faith. As a result, they have many questions. As a response, our parish staff created a similar process for "cradle and later Catholics".

Each session begins with prayer, which is followed by a question and answer period. Then a member of the staff makes a presentation followed by sharing in small groups. The session ends with prayer again.

The presentations for this fall series are arranged topically. So we cover the mystery of God, the Trinity (Father, Son & Holy Spirit), the Church and the Church year. Then we will take a break for Thanksgiving, Advent and the Christmas Season. When we resume the sessions in January, we look at sin & redemption, prayer and the Sacraments.

I realize folks may not be able to make every session, but if you can make most, it will be worthwhile. We will not only attempt to explain our faith, but share it; to pray together and learn new ways of prayer in our lives.

The Catholic Catechumenate begins this Monday evening at 7:30 pm and ends at 9pm. As Ed suggested last weekend: "Try it, youÕll like it!"

THE FUTURE CHURCH some of those who have joined our parish over the last couple of years donÕt realize that our present worship area is temporary. What we built was "a large, multi-purpose building, with a dedicated worship area. (Which means we would not have to set it up and take it down every weekend like when we were at Farms.) The present worship area will be remodeled one day into a hall, which will seat 250Š450. Folding walls will make it expandable and give us about 16 rooms for meetings, religious ed, etc.

The future church will be built directly in front of our present building so the Gathering area can be enlarged to connect it with the church. Even before we built our present building, we knew we would eventually need a church that would seat 1200. In fact the parking lot is already constructed for the future. The primary problem is that we will have outgrown our building (about 2003\4) long before the debt ($2.2 million) is repaid! (2009) ANOTHER REMINDER If you havenÕt paid too much attention up until now, I would remind you that it is less than a month before the election. Now is the time to listen carefully to what the candidates are really saying about the issues so that you can vote for the candidates who best represent you and your convictions.
