ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

MAKING YOURSELF PROUD Like many of you, as my younger niece leaves for school in the morning, we have a regular routine. Part of it is my reminder: "Make yourself proud!" I added this to our routine after a discussion two years ago. In my desire for her to do well, what I thought were reminders or encouragement, were received by her as criticism. Her reaction turned into a conversation that I think was a "graced moment" for both of us.

I became more aware that I need to be as quick to praise things done well as I am to point out those not done well. More importantly, we talked about pride. (In a flash of wisdom) I told her that my being proud of her didn’t matter, what really mattered was that she should be proud of herself. "What matters most is, to able to look in the mirror at the end of the day and to be honestly pleased with who you see & what you have accomplished." That is real pride or self esteem. If she could be proud of herself, then God would be proud of her and so would I.---- So, every morning our farewell includes the sincere hope that she’ll make herself proud.

SHELTERING THE HOMELESS Both we as a parish and many of our parishioners have good reason to be proud. The response of so many to help house and feed the homeless last week was truly impressive. The hospitality offered to our guests by our parishioners was genuine and generous. I was very impressed by the number of families who hosted our guests. You’re wonderful!!

SELLERS & BUYERS The other group that did themselves proud was the Renew Group who hosted the International Bazaar. They are a faith-sharing group that started a few years ago and for two years now, they have brought in handicrafts made by the Third World poor. (Catholic Relief Services buys these craft items from the poor and then relies on groups to sell them. The entire purchase price goes back to CRS, and most of what was paid for an item goes to the individual or co-op that made it.) This year they brought in three times the amount of items as last year. Both the sellers and the buyers ought to be proud of their contribution to change the lives of people who all too often have been victims of exploitation.

AUTHOR! AUTHOR! A third person to be proud was in the dentist office this Saturday morning. Joanne Pasienza was there to sign copies of her new book: P is for Patience (a children’s book on dental care). This is the first of three books that are being published! You’ve done yourself proud!! (And we’re proud of you, too!)

OF FAITH AND SERVICE

SENIOR MINISTRY You are invited to a luncheon and talk Tuesday, November 12, in the Adult Formation Room. The time will be 12:00-2:00 pm. Kathy Rigley, an occupational therapist, will present us with "Fall Prevention". Learn how to avoid falling and prevent accident, injury and unnecessary fractures. She will give new tips for safety and body mechanics. Please RSVP to me if you plan to come.

Kitchen Volunteers Needed

We are still in need for persons to give an hour of their time on the first Monday, fourth Monday and fifth Monday of each month to check the kitchen to be sure it is up to code. Many groups use the kitchen, and so to be knowledgeable about how it is to be inspection-ready is important to us.

Thank you for giving this some thought.

Sister Joyce

BAPTISM: I would like to make a correction from last week’s Bulletin of those who were Baptized in the month of October. Mitchell Jacob Fedewa was Baptized. He is the son of Tina and Eric Fedewa.

Keep us in your prayers next Saturday as we travel to Lansing for the Diocesan Jamboree. We will be with one thousand other teenagers to celebrate our love for the Lord as we listen to speakers, participate in workshops and attend Liturgy presided by the bishop. It will truly be an amazing day!

If you are interested in attending the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) scheduled for December 13-16, 2003 in Houston TX, then plan to come to our meeting Sunday, December 1, at 8pm and join us for snack as usual. There will be an informational meeting regarding the specifics of NCYC. I will be asking for a $50 deposit to reserve your spot due December 8.

Thank you to the people who donated baked goods last weekend for our bake sale. We collected $38 and donated it to the Catholic Relief Services. Thank you.

M.U.D (6, 7 and 8 graders)

This Tuesday fifteen of our MUD students will be volunteering their time at the Livingston County Food Pantry in Brighton. They will be helping stock the shelves with food for the poor of our county.

Those students and their parents, who are participating in the Spring Hill weekend retreat, are asked to attend a meeting on Monday December 2 in the social hall at 7:30pm. It should only last an hour.
