ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

A GREAT DAY! First, I would like to congratulate all our Confirmandi. It is my hope and my prayer that the significance of the Sacrament of Confirmation will continue to grow in your lives over the coming years.

I also hope that the significance of your Confirmation will also become more and more apparent to the whole parish! For even as the Confirmandi are filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, our parish is filled with wonderful possibilities. It means that we can look to you to share in the vision of this community and, through the sharing of your gifts; you will be a part of making that vision a reality.

This weekend is very important to us. Your desire to become full members of our Catholic Church, the combination of your personal gifts and the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit means that we are much richer in the blessings of God than before! Congratulations! ON

THE JOURNEY Next weekend, we celebrate a milestone in the lives of several people. For the last few months they have been INQUIRERS, coming together on Monday evenings to ask their questions about God, faith and the Catholic way of life.

You may not have noticed it, but besides asking questions and looking for answers, they have also been closely watching YOU! The deacon and catechists try to explain things, but they LOOK at you to see if it is real. They may see me up front, but they LOOK at you to see how the Catholic Faith is lived out.

Next Sunday morning at the 9 am Liturgy we will formally welcome these men, women and children who have been Inquirers and celebrate the Rite of Acceptance with them. Through this rite they will enter the Catechumenate. In this stage of their lives, they become "junior Catholics" Š they become a part of the Church, but not yet full members. Full membership is only achieved through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

I invite you join me in welcoming them into our community next Sunday morning. I also want you to keep an eye on them to see how they grow in faith. They will certainly be watching you to see how faith is lived out. Perhaps their journey will enrich ours as we grow together in faith, love and service!

IN THE KITCHENÉThe more observant will notice a new stove, oven and griddle in our kitchen. The appliances that had been there were refurbished (thanks to Ed Belanger) but we began having some problems with them. So it became necessary to replace them.

Thanks to two donors, we were able to purchase the trio of appliances which are much more reliable and energy efficient I want to thank them for their generosity.

I invite you to the K of C Spaghetti dinner next Saturday to see our newest additions and to test the results first hand. Reliable sources tell me we will be testing the griddle some Sunday morning in the near future.

Fr. Dave Howell

Religous Education

This weekend we celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with our youth. Just think, our High School youth, guided through their faith formation journey since 4th grade with Sr. Maryetta, stood before Bishop Mengeling and told him Confirmation was their choice! Many people helped to make this a community celebration. A few of those involved included our Confirmation catechists, Linda Kinneer, Maureen Thomas, Lisa Woodin, and Margaret Bandkau, also helping were Maggie and Mike Rife, Linda Dorset, and Mary Carol Fenrich. A special thanks to Diane Kubus for the beautiful mobile over the Baptismal Font! What a powerful symbol for the rest of our children to see. Steve and the music ministry team added the perfect musical touch to our Liturgy! Thanks also to all the 9th grade parents who baked and dropped off food for the reception and to those students who set-up, served, and cleaned up.

Just a reminder, those preparing for the Sacrament of Penance, please make sure you have a workbook for your child.

We are collecting coats for the needy in the barn, please drop them off this weekend and next.

Thanks!
Mary Mahar

I would like to congratulate all those who were confirmed. You have grown over the years, and it is obvious how the Lord has worked in your life and you have become a new creation. Please continue to be open to the call in the Lord and grow. Always ask the Lord to be with you during times of your life. We are so blessed to have you in our community.

ON THE JOURNEY

What ever happened to Thanksgiving? The day after Halloween I stopped at the intersection of Challis and Grand River and found myself face to face with Christmas trees and candy canes. What happened to the turkeys, the pilgrims and the Indians? While Thanksgiving in the United States is a national holiday, it does give us an opportunity to pause and think about the many blessings we have received over the past year. It says something to all of us about the importance of giving thanks. So often we only "resort" to prayer when things arenÕt going well; hopefully, Thanksgiving will help us remember that there are still four basic prayer forms: petition, praise, sorrow and thanksgiving.

PS If you happen to spot a pilgrim or two in the next couple of weeks, please let me know! WeÕre planning dinner for our combined families (a possible 33 kids and grandkids) and IÕm in need of a lot of them!

Yours on the journey, Marilyn

YOUTH NEWS

We have been asked to help a teacher at Mercy High School collect 1,500 stuffed animals to donate this Christmas season to children less fortunate. Tonight Red Wing tickets will be awarded to the person who brings in the most stuffed animals. Many of you stated last week that you have cleaned out your room and have a box full. Bring them in and perhaps you will be sitting in Joe Louis Arena this Wednesday evening. If you want to donate some of your like new or brand new stuffed friends, but cannot make SundayÕs meeting, please drop them off in my office. This teacher hopes to raise the whole 1,500 by the end of this month.

Congratulations to all of you who received the sacrament of Confirmation. What a blessing you have received! Tom and I pray that you will use your gifts to become a better person, a person who lives their life spreading the Gospel by their actions.

Jamboree 2000 is next week. I am looking forward to a great day. We will be traveling with St. PatÕs. All participants are expected to be at St. PatÕs parking lot no later than 8:15. NOVEMBER CHARITY OF THE MONTH JUVENILE DIABETES

What is diabetes? A Chronic, genetically determined, debilitation disease affecting every organ system. There are two major types of diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 (juvenile) is caused by the autoimmune destruction of the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas and is usually diagnosed in childhood. Facts about Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes

  • Affects Young Children: ItÕs one of the most costly, chronic diseases of childhood and one you never outgrow.
  • Insulin is not a cure: While insulin allows a person to stay alive, it does not prevent the serious complications of diabetes.
  • Needs Constant Attention: To survive, people with Type 1 diabetes must take multiple insulin injections daily and test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood four or more times per day. While trying to balance insulin injections with their amount of food intake, people with Type 1 diabetes must constantly be prepared for potential hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemic (high blood sugar) reactions which are life threatening.

Remember that 25% of the Alms monies collected this month will be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Please help with this disease that affects 30,00 Americans, 13,000 of whom are children. ThatÕs 35 children each and every day.
