ALL THINGS CONSIDERED
CONGRATULATIONS to our SENIORS!
On behalf of all of us, I want to wish all of our graduates our very best! We are very proud of your accomplishment and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you to a bright and promising future.
ENDING THE YEAR
June 19 is the last meeting for all our Councils and ministry teams. As we did in September, we will bring all of them together. This time, we will review the work of the past year and evaluate their success at achieving the goals set at the September meeting. This becomes the last meeting of those who are leaving ministry teams and the first meeting of those who are joining. While the new people may not feel like they have much to contribute to the discussion, it is important for them to participate. The review of the years efforts will serve as an orientation to new members, helping them better understand the work of the ministry team. The gathering also helps prepare us for the September goal-setting meeting: DIRECTIONS 2003.
So I would ask all of our "departing & incoming" members of councils and ministry teams to mark Wednesday, June 19 on their calendars!
THE NURSERY
Beginning in May, a change has been made in our nursery. We have hired two adults to provide consistent care to our little ones. Becky and Anne will alternate Sundays, but one of them will be in the nursery each week. They will be there fifteen minutes before the Liturgy and remain there ten minutes afterward. We will also be purchasing a paging system for parents, so that they can be contacted if needed during the Liturgy, and relax and pray if not needed. Parents will pick up a pager when dropping off the child and return it afterward.
These are important changes that I hope will make the nursery a real ministry for parents. But there are a couple of things that will stay the same: CO-OP The nursery will still remain a cooperative effort. Those who use it are expected to take a turn assisting Anne or Becky. With adequate, consistent staffing, we know that the nursery will always be a safe place for our kids.
PICK UP TIME Parents are reminded that both children and the staffers expect parents to come get their child immediately after the Liturgy!
We are hoping that these changes and parental cooperation will make the nursery a valued ministry in our parish.

A DAY of PRAYER & PENANCE
Bishop Mengeling has asked everyone to observe Friday, June 7 as a day of prayer and penance for the healing of all the victims of abuse.
June 7 is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the feast that celebrates His mercy and love, revealed in His passion, death and resurrection.
Our observance will begin with the Liturgy of the Sacred Heart at 9 am in the church. As the Liturgy closes, the Blessed Sacrament will be brought to Holy Cross Chapel (near the offices). All those who are able are asked to come and spend time in prayer petitioning the Lord for the gift of healing. The time of quiet prayer will end with a special Prayer for Healing Service at 5 PM.
Whether you can come to church or not, please take some time to pray on June 7 for the healing of the victims and for the Church. We are also asked to join penance to our prayer. These penitential practices can take the form of fasting, abstinence, works of charity or selfdenial.

10 am-4pm St. Mary Magdalen Quilt Festival (Barn & Pavilion)
Last Saturday, I found out that the mound out front is dedicated to the First Eucharist children of St. Mary Magdalen! Each year they bring flowers to decorate the altar for First Eucharist, and then, after Pentecost, plant them on the mound. I would like to thank the few families that came out last Saturday, and weeded, pruned, planted the flowers, and froze on behalf of the entire group! By the time we were finished, we were all very proud of the job they all did! As you pass by it every week keep our youth and all in formation in your prayers as they journey toward the Sacraments!
Many people have been asking me about working with our children in the fall! We train everyone who works in our formation classes and will start the training at the end of August this year. If you are interested in helping in the fall program we need help in many different ways. Call or stop by my office for more information. If you know you want to help at a certain session or grade, let me know now! Thank you to all who have already said yes!
Catechist training opportunities are already set for the fall. Catechists and Aides, mark your calendars for Monday, September 6, and Saturday, September 28.
Id like to share with you a parable written by one of our Thursday 3rd graders. Maggie K. writes: "The kingdom of God is special to me because it is like when my family sits down at the dinner table and plays cards. The Kingdom is quiet and beautiful like a field of beautiful flowers, and it is very, very big. It is like when you are in a Hot Air Balloon in the sky!" And with that thought, have a great week!

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD
Since September 11, it is even more important to share the need for peace with people throughout the world. Your family can do this while learning about another culture! Homes are needed for students from many different countries for the coming school year and also for French and Spanish teenagers who will be coming to Michigan for 4 weeks this summer between June 28 and August 9. Students will be here to learn our culture and improve their English on a first-hand basis. This project is sponsored by Nacel Open Door, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting international understanding at the family level. For more information, call the National office at 800-622-3553 or visit the web site at www.geocities.com/nacelod.
Congratulations to all the graduating seniors! May God be with you in all of your future adventures! I want to thank all of the volunteers who helped make the breakfast a success, especially youth group members and the junior class students who donated food and helped serve.
What better way to give back to God for all that we have than to help those in need and who are struggling! July 14-20 we will be traveling to Providence, Kentucky to help in the aftermath of a tornado that devastated a small town there. If you are interested in participating in the National Relief Network (NRN) program with us, call me for more information at 227-7937.
What better way to keep warm on a cool summer evening than in a St. Mary Magdalen sweatshirt! Or better yet, give one to the graduating senior who is leaving home. What a great gift and reminder of God in their lives in all ways! Call me at the above number to buy one.
Next weekend, the participants of the NRN program will be at One Stop Tire and Auto on Grand River, having a car wash to help raise money for their trip. Plan to stop by between 8am and 5pm.
M.U.D (6, 7 and 8 graders)
August 24, is our annual car wash at Walters Appliance on Grand River.
