THE PRIESTHOOD ORDINATION will take place next Saturday morning at 10:30 in St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing. Jerry Vincke, along with Robert Copeland and Bob Pienta, will be ordained to the priesthood and service in the Diocese of Lansing.
Although you did not receive an invitation, everyone is invited to the ordination. Jerry had asked about sending out invitations to all our 725 households and I suggested using the Visionary and bulletin instead.
A reception will follow the Ordination Liturgy in the Cathedral hall. The hall is located in the building behind the Cathedral. Directions to the Cathedral: Take I-96 to Lansing. Head north on US 127 to I-496. Exit I-496 at the Pine/Walnut Streets exit. Quickly move into the right hand lane and turn right on Walnut. The Cathedral is located in the block just north of the state Capitol Building. You will find parking around the Cathedral.
A THANKSGIVING MASS Next Sunday, Fr. Jerry Vincke will celebrate the 11 am Liturgy with us in thanksgiving. I hope you will be able to join in the prayer and celebration of this Liturgy. A reception will follow in the parish hall. PRAYING FOR HIM This Sunday afternoon you are invited to come and pray for Jerry as he begins his retreat in preparation for ordination. From the end of the 11 am Liturgy until 6 pm the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed or displayed in our Holy Cross Chapel (near the office entrance).
The Eucharist will be displayed in a special vessel called a monstrance, allowing us to see the Blessed Sacrament. It will be as if the Liturgy "froze" just as the minister held up the Eucharist before us, saying: "The Body of Christ!" This gives us the opportunity to ponder the wonderful gift Christ gives us in the Sacrament of His Body.
I truly hope that as many people as possible - especially our Ministers of Prayer - will take whatever time their schedule will allow to come and pray before the Lord.
Adoration will end with Solemn Vespers at 6 pm. Vespers is an older name for
Evening Prayer. Those who participate are asked to assemble in church. At 6 pm, we will carry
the Eucharist back into church and conclude this day of prayer with the Church's prayer.
Fr. Dave Howell
MEMORIAL DAY began as a day set aside to honor those who have died in war. Over the years, its meaning has broadened to become a day of remembrance of all those who have died. Liturgically, this is the purpose of All Souls Day (Nov.2) But the national holiday gives a second day to remember those who have gone before us. The Memorial Day Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:00 am in the Worship area.
Please pray that the sick will respond to God's healing will, especially: Miriam Marker, Jeanne (Sr. Maryetta's sister), Matt Even, Eileen Auld, Keith Kovach, Ellen Colombo, Ken Colombo, Emerson Brown, John Fay, Adeline Smith, Richard Waldeck, Clark, Larry Cecil, Anna Cecil, Catherine Howard, Dottie King, Nola Mitchell, Catherine Schumont, Ken Carson, Emily Cooper, Jake, Shirley Brake, Keith Dunn, Karen (Pat Spindler's daughter), Laurie Deirlein, Ron Schaar, Marilyn (mother of Steve Crowell), Jeannette Wood, Bob Chilton, Nancy, Jane, Merle, Ed, Zora Kolef, Keith Freel, Tom Cavanaugh, Timothy Richards, Mary Kay Davis, Donovan and Audrey Grace (mother of Judy Kronk).

The older I get the more I've come to appreciate the organization and flow of the Church year. From Advent through Lent, the Triduum and the Easter Season, we trace our history and story. Now, having been sent forth at Pentecost, we enter the longest period - Ordinary time. It is in the ordinary, that we face our greatest challenges. Continuing to bring Christ into the "everyday" real life problems we face is the real continuation of our faith stories - the part that is still being written. Yours on the journey, Marilyn
During the month of May, we celebrated the sacrament of Baptism with Megan Elizabeth Peetz, daughter of Sandy and Steven Peetz; Ian Lee Rodney, son of Alec and Mary Rodney; Michael Sean Rollinger, son of Michael and Kathy Rollinger; Lindsey Elizabeth McKaig, daughter of Louie and Mary McKaig; Jaclynn Marie Spryshak, daughter of Joe and Maureen Spryshak; and Nicolai Valentino Vincent, son of Ron and Tina Vincent.
We congratulate their parents and godparents and offer them our prayers and support, as they accompany them on their journeys of faith.
