ALL THINGS CONSIDERED
A SUMMER HOLY DAY
Next Wednesday is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day on which we are expected to participate in Eucharist. It celebrates Marys assumption, her being taken up into heaven after her death. It also celebrates our hope that where she is gone, we hope to follow! Liturgies will be celebrated at 9am & 7pm.MANY THANKS!
To all those who were involved in our vacation-time Journey with Jesus! There was a whole crew of adults and young people who made it a wonderful experience for all our children. Thanks to all who were involved!COMING ATTRACTIONS!!
Even though it is only the second week of August, in many ways the summer is over for our parish staff. All the plans made last spring are now starting to take shape. Journey with Jesus, our vacation Bible school, seems to be the start of parish activity. We have begun registering people for Directions 2002, which is our parish planning session for the coming year. On Wednesday and Thursday, Sept 5 & 6, all the members of our ministry teams and councils will come together to make plans for the coming year.
Preparations for our Religious Education & Formation Programs are well underway. Mary Mahar and Sr. Maryetta are already working with catechists to be ready for the start of the program
Just a word of advice: if you have not yet registered your children for the fall, please do so soon!! Some classes are already full, and latecomers may find themselves with fewer and less convenient options.
Three Minutes on the Liturgy will be returning later in September. For those who have joined the parish in the last couple of years, this is an explanation of a part of the Liturgy which will be given three minutes before Mass starts. Over the months, we will explain all the different aspects of the Liturgy going from fasting & vestments to the closing hymn.
Next winter, we will be offering all the adults of our community a special opportunity for spiritual enrichment: Parish Retreats. We had a similar series of these retreats five years ago and we thought it might be worthwhile to offer them again.
The retreats take place over a weekend, beginning on Friday evening and ending on Sunday afternoon. Through the progression of prayer, talks, sharing and quiet reflection, the retreat offers participants the opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a part of the Body of Christ.
SPECIAL THANKS
to all those who gave or attempted to give blood last week. Despite the fact that we gave you only two weeks notice, 124 people showed up and 98 were able to give blood. Thanks for your generosity!!!
