JOURNEY WITH JESUS is our Vacation Bible School which will be held this week. Sr. Maryetta reports that almost 175 of our youth will be participating in a wide variety of activities that should prove to be both fun and informative.
A special thank you to Sister, Peggy Weingartz and all the adults and young people who will be a part of JwJ. Please join me in praying that this year's journey will be safe, enjoyable and successful.
FROM ST. PAT'S Most of you probably did not notice the plant with pink carnations which was placed at the base of our new statue of St. Mary Magdalen. But I thought you would like to know that it was sent from "the people of St. Patrick Parish". I am sure the one responsible for gift was their new pastor, Fr. Dan McKean. It seemed rather fitting for him to remember us on our feast day. Because back in the days when he was associate pastor at St. Pat's, he was very instrumental in urging the diocese to purchase this property for a new parish.
ANOTHER EAGLE Last Saturday afternoon CJ Darr was inducted into Scouting's elite as he became an Eagle Scout. On behalf of us all, I want to congratulate both CJ and his parents, Joanne and Chuck Darr. This marks the second Eagle ceremony we have hosted in just a month. Yet only a very small percentage of boy scouts ever achieves the rank of Eagle. Perhaps it is only "fatherly" pride, but it seems to me that we have an exceptional group of young people in this parish.
WELL, WELL, WELL... The reason for the water failure last weekend
appears to have been related to the thunderstorm that passed through late last Friday
afternoon just before the offices closed. The problem wasn't discovered until Saturday afternoon. Repeated attempts to get someone here on the weekend to fix the problem were obviously unsuccessful. Sorry if anyone was inconvenienced.
Fr. Dave Howell

On August 10 the Scripture and Stitches Quilters will begin their second quilt for Habitat for Humanity. If you are a quilter or would like to become one, please join us on Tuesday morning (10:00 a.m.) to help us with this project. The quilt will be given to Habitat to help raise money for the construction of homes in this area.
During the summer, the Scripture and Stitches group meets every week, combining Bible study with quilting. In the fall and winter they continue to meet monthly, hoping to finish their summer projects before a new quilt is presented. Over the past five summers, I've begun them all and finished none, but had a great time exploring the scripture passages and discovering new friends.
For more information about Scripture and Stitches, please give me a
call at (810) 229-8624.

THE ANAMNESIS The Memorial Acclamations are intimately connected with what follows next in the Eucharistic Prayer, the anamnesis. This Greek word, meaning to "make memory", is originally a Jewish concept.
The Jewish feast of Passover celebrates the great saving moment in their history. After over 200 years of slavery in Egypt, the Hebrew people were finally set free after a series of ten plagues. The last of these disasters to strike Egypt was the death of the first born. Moses had commanded the Hebrews to take a yearling lamb and slaughter it by draining its blood. The blood of the lamb was to be smeared over their doorways and then they were to roast the lamb whole and eat it. During the night of this ritual feast, the angel of death passed over Egypt. Every household not marked with the blood of the lamb experienced the death of the first born during that night, while the Hebrew homes which were marked, were spared this tragic death. This last and most tragic disaster finally caused the pharaoh to expel the Hebrews. (The full account is found in the Book of Exodus.)
After they were freed, God commanded that this was a feast to be celebrated every year as a memorial feast and that every generation was to celebrate it as if they themselves had experienced it. This command is the basis for every Passover gathering to this day. By coming together to "make memory" the participants do not simply remember, they re-live the experience!
It was this feast that Jesus celebrated as his own Last Supper. His words over the bread and the wine were to make clear the meaning of His death and resurrection which were to follow thatmeal. Jesus was the Lamb of the new Passover whose blood would mark all believers as those spared eternal death. By giving us His body broken and His blood poured out we are given a share in His resurrection. To make this clear, Jesus said "Do this in memory of me." When we celebrate the Eucharist, we "make memory" - that is we relive the experience of the new Exodus of the Lord Jesus who leads us out of a slavery to sin and into the promise of life eternal.
This is why at every Liturgy, after we proclaim the mystery of our faith, the presider continues the Eucharistic Prayer with the anamnesis. By remembering the life, death and resurrection of Christ, we "make memory" and are present again to this great saving event of our faith.
There is a nationwide ministry available to traveling Catholics providing free information on the location of the nearest church and times of Masses on weekends and holy days. This service is available to all parishes by calling 1-800-627-7846 or checking the internet at www.masstimes.org.
